Arrogant Criminals are a rock group from Paris. “The band exists since 2010 and experienced a second birth in 2017,” says Simon (guitarist and vocalist). They published their EP entitled Arrogant Criminals in 2014 with a remix of “Five Years of Dreams” the next year. Their engaging LP “Fine & Dandy” was released just last year.
“We try to make the music we like the most and it’s complicated. I like to call it Rock because it’s inspired by those moments when the life that some people are trying to impose on us becomes so unbreathable that we need to grab our instruments and scream,” Simon responded.
Arrogant Criminals explores many worlds with “Fine & Dandy.” From songs about not being ready to say goodbye to almost futuristic tracks with fantasy settings and elements. The over-arching theme of the tracks take form in some sort of sorrow. Most of the songs deeply relate to the state I am in, creating an emotional tie between myself and the album. At the same time, I was significantly invested in their innovative sounds and brilliant vocals.
“The Beatles had a huge influence on our lives as musicians, and for the creation of the album, arctic monkeys really recreated a style rock that we loved, mgmt are also very important to us. And today’s post-punk revolution is incredible; I listen to Idles and Fontaines D.C. every day.” Says Simon.
“Fine & Dandy” begins with a powerful track with the same name as the album. The song has fantastic guitar and bass lines (provided by Mitch-bassist) that pull in the listener. There’s a catchy – slightly doomsday – beat that blends perfectly with the guitar solo approaching the end.
“I’m a Fool For You” had a lot going on, and I love the feel. It’s uplifting from the tones of vocalist Simon to the backbeat provided by drummer Clement. And the lyrics are very catchy. I found myself singing along before it was half-way through. Playing the song on repeat, I fell in love with it even more each time. They still rope in those interesting doomsday sounds while maintaining the upbeat feel. Point blank, the track was one of my many favorites of the album. It easily covers what it’s like to be a hopeless romantic; “It’s okay to be a fool if I’m a fool for you,” the lyrics read.
The Arrogant Criminals do a phenomenal job of addicting their audience at first listen. They’re masters at creating the gripping first seconds of their tracks. They sink their teeth inside of you and pull you in with a unique feel for each song.
The album is brilliant. I recommend it to any heart beating for new and unique music.
“Our message is that everyone is the best version of hisself. Requirement must become an archaic thing and happiness, a quest for everyone. Despite the difficult situation, I am deeply convinced that happiness has to be now and not later. So the next step for us is now!” – The Arrogant Criminals.
