Specializing in catchy punk/rock and outrageous makeup I’ve had the opportunity to talk to the vocals and face of the upcoming band Kabüki. Formed just a year ago the band invites you to explore their world of high-quality, captivating music videos, ripping guitar solos, and broad, animated vocals.
However, before getting wrapped into the endless world that is the Kabüki show, stay to hear from the lead of the group Prince Okuni who shares his personal first, last, favorite gigs, and plenty more!
The first-ever concert you went to?
Well, I guess it depends. If we count free gigs, it was the concert of a Spanish rockabilly singer, Loquillo. But the first time I paid was to see Apocalyptica: Finish rock music mixed with three guys playing violoncellos, definitely a blast and an inspiration to do something different and shocking with Kabüki!
The last gig you went to?
Lordi. Three members of the band decided to have a crazy Summer and go to a bunch of festivals together. The last one, Wacken, happened to be in beautiful Germany, and it’s known as the mecca of metal music. On the last day, while the other two went to sleep early, I decided that I couldn’t leave without seeing the theatrical show of the former Eurovision winners, who were the last band to play in the festival. Hard Rock Hallelujah!

Your favorite band or artist to see live?
Oh dear, this is a difficult question… Each band I can think of brings something different to the table. If I can choose a bunch, I’d say the shows of Bring me the Horizon, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Ghost or Within Temptation take it. The truth is, with Kabüki being a band that focusses a lot on the show aspect of the gig, we notice how almost every famous band has a different style that can teach us something different that we can apply to our own concerts.
The band or artist you’ve seen live the most times?
I love festivals way more than I love regular concerts, so we would have to see which band has been repeated the most times in all my past festivals. It would probably be Iron Maiden, a British classic, and not a bad one as they constantly deliver.
Where/when are you next performing live?
Our first headlining gig, on the 21st of October! It’s still a bit far, but we will be bringing our pink theatrical show to 93 FEET EAST, a beautiful venue here in London, where we will share the stage with Archways, Jack Dora and Ford Above. A night full of hungry talent and lots of rock!
Is there any exciting news coming up for you guys?
It’s been a long time since we have released something, as we’ve been focusing on gigging but… We will be releasing a new single soon, as well as a video for an already released song. Oh, and if you happen to come see us on the 21st of October, we might be presenting three new songs. Possibly the best tracks we have ever written!
