Wonder Woman 3 On Hold At DC Studios

Under the current leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC Studios, it appears that the third Wonder Woman movie project is now on hold and may not materialize at all, even though it seemed to be moving along (albeit a bit slowly).

James Gunn and Peter Safran reportedly rejected the most recent treatment for the upcoming movie directed by Patty Jenkins, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After taking control on November 1 at the newly renamed DC Studios, Gunn and Safran appear to have gone on a retreat to consider their plans for the future of the Warners-owned comic book industry. They are now prepared to begin communicating their intentions to authors and studio officials.

That does not appear to incorporate Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman, at least not in the way Jenkins and Geoff Johns had intended. Gadot may reprise her role as the heroic character, but Gunn and Safran seem to be moving away from the Zack Snyder-created cast of characters.

That could also indicate a reduction in Henry Cavill’s time as Superman (again, despite the appearance of progress) and the cancellation of the Black Adam sequel, even as the production team for that movie launches a covert PR campaign to claim that the first movie was successful, with hopes of a second main installment and potential spin-off. Subsequently taking the job, Gunn has responded to fans’ questions on Twitter regarding various DC-related topics. He has since posted his thoughts on the latest development.

The essential thing is that, although we don’t yet know its exact shape, Gunn and Safran’s new DC will undoubtedly reflect their personalities. Which might indicate a new path for Wonder Woman, Superman, and other characters.

In light of that, Gadot’s enthusiastic tweet about continuing to play Diana Prince may not have been the wisest move at the moment.
