The Doors Guitarist Robby Krieger To Release Memoir

Robby Krieger is best known as the co-founder and guitarist of the renowned rock band The Doors, and his varied playing and songwriting were integral to the band’s sound. After spending the last year releasing guitar lessons on youtube and putting out a solo album, Krieger announces the release of his memoir titled, Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying, and Playing Guitar With the Doors.

Not only will we receive a further look into the Doors and the dysfunctional beauty of the band, but we will get a front-row seat into Krieger’s life. From buying his first guitar at a pawnshop to his drug problems and eventually his battle with cancer.

“Krieger also goes into heartbreaking detail about his life’s most difficult struggles, ranging from drug addiction, to his twin brother’s mental breakdown, to his own battle with cancer,” publishers Little, Brown said of the memoir. “Counterbalancing the sorrow are humorous anecdotes about run-ins with unstable fans, famous musicians, and one really angry monk.”

The guitarist has gone into detail about things like the recording sessions of classic albums and singles. And even his perspective of the New Haven incident in 1967. When frontman and icon Jim Morrison was arrested mid-performance, in the video below, you can see how completely stunned he is with a the-hell-did-i-do-now look on his face.

The Doors have been a massive inspiration to me for quite a while. I’m sitting on pins waiting for that memoir to come out. The book will be available on October 12th from the publishing house Little, Brown.
