A Deadpool 3 fan poster illustrates Wade Wilson, Deadpool, utilizing Scarlet Witch’s mind control abilities against her as a teaser for the anti-hero’s eventual preface into the MCU. Since Disney attained the rights to Deadpool by buying Fox, Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) appearance in the cinematic universe has been overly hyped.
As a huge Deadpool fan, a third movie is overwhelming. Deadpool 3 will be the continuance of the series that commenced under 20th Century Fox with loads of credit and pop culture relevancy. The film will maintain an R-rating like the first two and will be the MCU’s first R-rated project. However, there has been no official release date announced for Deadpool 3. As of now all we can do is hang on to fan theories, this one being by far one of the best.
Marvel recently announced what movies and shows are planned during Phases 5 and 6 at SDCC. In that list, there was no mention of developing Deadpool into a trilogy. One justification for this could be that Marvel is not permitted to recast actors for specific characters from Fox (like Weasel – TJ Miller – or Domino – Zazie Beetz – who remain under contractual arrangements that will not end until 2025. X-Men (or in other words X-force) actors might be under this ideology. This might explain why the mutants are missing from Marvel’s newest phases.
This is significant for Deadpool 3 due to Wilson’s direct link to the X-Men, as they play a critical role in the plot of Deadpool 2. If their possible MCU debut is postponed, then we may not see the red assassin until the X-Men are revealed. However, Kevin Feige has said there are still many surprises to come and an abundance of dates still open for projects to be announced. Deadpool 3 could still be one of the surprises. The hardcore fans still hold onto this last hope.
Despite an indefinite release date, the appeal for Deadpool 3 remains very high. A case in point is this incredible fan poster by Agt Design on Instagram that portrays Wilson hypnotizing Scarlet Witch. In what would be an intriguing matchup between the two characters Deadpool somehow has gained the capacity to use Wanda’s mind control ability. If Wanda and Wade were to throw down the hybrid of her psychic powers and his physical combat prowess, it would make a sensational and thrilling battle. And despite Deadpool’s original comic-book entry to the MCU being through spiderman, I’m not sure most would mind seeing the matchup of Wanda and Wade. Check out Agt Design’s fun concept here.
There have been many theories cooking up as fans anticipate more from Deadpool.
In Deadpool 2, Deadpool manages to save the lives of Cable’s wife and daughter by preventing Russell, aka Firefist, from taking his first step on the path to becoming a murderous pyromaniac. Towards the film’s end, Cable reveals that his daughter’s name is Hope, a name with huge significance in the X-Men canon.
In the comics, Hope Summers was spared from death by Cable, who believed her to be the “Mutant Messiah,” as she was the first mutant baby born after the catastrophic events of M-Day. The teddy bear hanging from Cable’s hips in promotional images released before Deadpool 2 led fans to theorize his mission would be tied to baby Hope, and after she was name-dropped in the film (and saved), it’s not hard to imagine that an older version of her might make an appearance in the next installment.
Wade Wilson’s lady love has had quite a traumatic ride through both Deadpool movies. She was beaten and kidnapped by Ajax in the first installment, and then gunned down early into the second. Her character name has led many fans to speculate that she may be the shapeshifting Marvel character Copycat, but there’s a far wilder theory surrounding her real identity.
Vanessa has been the biggest motivating force for Wade to do good so far. Even from beyond the grave, she appeared to him in his near-death hallucinations to offer ghostly wisdom. Instead of Copycat, what if Vanessa is actually Wade’s other great love from the comics, Lady Death? The hurdle of mortality that separates them in Deadpool 2 certainly mirrors the relationship they have on-page. Perhaps the final film in a possible Deadpool trilogy will reveal the truth.
And personally my favorite of the thousands of online theories written by eager fans like myself:
In case you hadn’t noticed, Deadpool gets beaten up a lot. But, thanks to his healing factor, he always comes back in one piece. In the comics, his repeated dismemberment and scattering of stray limbs led a crazed fangirl, Dr. Ella Whitby, to collect all his discarded parts, birthing a Frankenstein’s monster of ‘Pool parts nicknamed Evil Deadpool.
There was a theory that Deadpool and Cable would be forced to abandon their squabble with each other to fight a similar abomination in Deadpool 2. This didn’t happen, but, given the brutal bisection Wade suffered at the giant hands of Juggernaut, the likelihood of Evil Deadpool becoming a future villain still has traction.
Deadpool 3′s writers have teased that the story would continue the comedic fourth wall breaking and use it while dealing with the character joining the MCU. Wilson’s introduction to the MCU will surely shake-up the universe and will be a surprise for fans not as familiar with the bad mouthed-mercenary. Whether Wilson will be battling Scarlet Witch or another character presently from the MCU in Deadpool 3 is a mystery and we will just have to wait and find out.
