In an awkward “You People” teaser, Eddie Murphy and Nia Long Test Jonah Hill’s love

You People, the feature directorial debut of Kenya Barris and starring Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy, and Nia Long, has received a teaser from Netflix.

In the suspenseful yet humorous teaser, Murphy and Long’s characters, who play Londoner Amira Mohammed’s parents, meet with Hill’s character Ezra Cohen to ask for their daughter’s hand in marriage at the renowned Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. Ezra finds himself in an awkward position as he tries to persuade Murphy and Long that “mixed race people” — name-dropping Malcolm X — “are really awesome” and that their intimate life isn’t intimate enough for them to have a baby right now. The conversation quickly deviates as Murphy and Long’s parental instincts take over almost immediately. This is the official logline: “A new couple and their families find themselves examining modern love and family dynamics amidst clashing cultures, societal expectations and generational differences in this comedy from Kenya Barris.”

David Duchovny, Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett (Taco), Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage, Mike Epps, Emily Arlook, Alani La La Anthony, Bryan Greenberg, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus round out the cast in addition to Hill, London, Murphy, and Long. Along with Kevin Misher, Hill and Barris serve as writers and producers; Andy Berman, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Matt Dines, Hale Rothstein, Alison Goodwin, Mychelle Deschamps, and David Hyman serve as executive producers.

Check out the teaser. On January 27, 2023, You People will debut on Netflix.
