Metal fans are still talking about Metallica’s new single, “Lux terna,” which was released on November 28.
Longtime Metallica fans won’t be surprised by this topic of conversation, but Lars Ulrich’s drumming on the song is one topic of discussion.
The isolated drum tracks from “Lux Aeterna” by Ulrich are now audible.
Did the song’s lightning-quick kick drum surprise you when you first heard it? What about the cymbal wash Ulrich frequently uses throughout his performances? Now you can focus on what Ulrich is banging out on those skins without being distracted by the other instruments in the mix and take it all in.
What caused this to happen? Utilizing the software Moises, an AI-powered tool for artists that allows users to remove vocals and isolate instruments in a song, YouTube user Abunchoftrash separated Ulrich’s “Lux terna” tracks. They are also able to play songs in any key and at any speed. (There are currently a lot of apps available that assist musicians in pulling off such a feat.)
The song “Lux terna” is a component of Metallica’s upcoming album, 72 Seasons, which will be released on April 14, 2023. The music charts also show that “Lux terna” is already fairly well-liked; it debuted in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Trending Tracks and is currently rising in the YouTube Music Charts.
