Gorillaz’s Self-titled Debut Album Turns 20

Gorillaz’s self-titled debut album turns 20 today, March 26, and the band has teased several upcoming releases to commemorate the occasion. The Gorillaz were one of the first bands who truly inspired my dive into music.

On March 26, 2001, the energized band, led by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, released their debut album. The album introduced the group to the world and featured some of their most well-known songs, including ‘Clint Eastwood’ and ’19-2000.’ The collection debuted at No. 3 in the UK charts and is now certified platinum, with 974,311 copies sold in the previous twenty years.

To mark the occasion, the virtual outfit has teased some exciting stuff for 2021, including a reissue of the collection, which will arrive later that year as the first in a series of re-releases from their inventory.

Gorillaz has also teamed up with Superplastic for the release of some limited-edition vinyl toys and NFT computerized craftsmanship collectibles, featuring all four members of the band: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russell. This comes a year after the band’s toy dolls were delivered.

G Foot, Gorillaz’s dress collection, will be relaunched in 2021, with a shiny new assortment expected to arrive during the year.

A year ago, it was revealed that an official Gorillaz film was in the works, but no further information has been made available at this time.
