The badass duo Death From Above 1979 has made yet another return. For nearly four years – since ‘Outrage! Is Now’- we’ve gotten nothing from them. However, the recently released single ‘One + One’ announced their fourth LP. To pre-order the album, click here, and to watch the music video for ‘One + One,’ go here.
The upbeat, catchy single just premiered this Wednesday on Youtube with a visually satisfying video. Grainger (the duo’s drummer and vocalist) explains, “Since we started playing, people would come up to the stage and after and say, ‘I can’t believe there’s just two of you. The video for ‘One + One’ is Eva’s way of showing that our band is greater than the sum of its parts. It’s Death From Above 1979 in multitudes.”
“Now it’s 2021 and the doors are wide open,” Keeler told NME. “When can we do ‘Low’ [David Bowie] and just make one side of songs and another of ambient noise? We tried that, but Jesse can’t help writing songs over the jams.”
Grainger said, “Because we didn’t have to articulate any idea out loud or defend anything to anyone, the level of trust that Jesse and I had for one another was pretty high. We were just playing and writing while totally unaffected by anyone’s opinion or any other references. We just squeezed all of the cool stuff that we could out of the work without thinking about anything else.
“There’s a song on the album called ‘NYC Power Elite’. When Jesse played that riff, I just leaned into it and that unlocked the potential of the rest of the record. That validated our choice to do it on our own.”
Keeler and Grainger have planned to release ‘Is4Lovers’ on March 26. Everything is available for pre-order on their website, including a limited edition signed autographed vinyl.
