Nehoda has produced tracks layered with guitars, pulsing drums, powerful vocals, and a great, driving bassline. Titled “But Anyways,” the album was recorded “with no overdubs or edits. Old School.” Each track emotionally touches the listener with sassy guitar lines and compelling vocals. I immensely enjoyed the listen, and I hope to spread it along to others. Some of their biggest inspirations are Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Beatles, and Johnny Cash.
Patrick Nehoda (guitar and vocals) was “working on putting something together but had not found the right ingredients yet.” He had been playing solo at The Springwater in Nashville two years ago when he met Jeremy Gill (drums and percussion) and Grayson Papa (bass). “Both Jeremy and Grayson were performing in other bands that night. At separate times in the evening, they approached Patrick and suggested they should try playing some music and see what happens,” the group wrote.
The album starts with excellent guitar lines. “I Don’t Know” is about not being able to tell what is the truth and what is a lie. The song goes on a deeper level of worldwide issues and touches on how recently our environment seems like shit. “It’s no wonder the youth of the world/ Want to set this place on fire,” the lyrics read. It’s a rollercoaster of a song, keeping you stomping your heal to the rhythm while feeling the truth of Partick Nehoda’s lyrics.
Moving to Side B, it begins with something lighter and more captivating. Side B is airy and refreshing while keeping that heaviness from the guitar riffs and bass lines. “Walk Away” is beyond amazing; musically, the piece is addictive. I found myself bringing back the needle to play the individual song over and over and over again. It’s crisp and cuts deep into such a raw feeling. “Walk Away” starts with gripping drums so does “Afterglow.” Not one song lacks, Nehoda carries their sheer talent and impressive energy all the way through “But Anyways.”
“There are stories behind every song on this album. It would be a 20-page paper if I told them all to you,” they wrote me. I think it’s incredible to hear every song (story) being told with engaging musicality.
I strongly recommend “But Anyways” to music fans, point-blank. I feel everyone within and outside of rock should enjoy the album. At the moment, they are working on a follow-up, “we already have about 8 new songs that we are currently working on.”
